The Beijing Cultural Exchange Museum was established in November of 1992 and is situated in the Zhihua Temple in the eastern district of Beijing. It's Principal aim is as a centre for developing cultural exchange and for developing the study of cultural relics and museums.
The Zhihua Temple was built in the 8th year of the Zhengtong reign during the Ming Dynasty in 1443.It was originally built as the family temple of Wangzhen, a eunuch of the Ming Court and was later given the name 'The Zhihua Meditation Temple' by the Emperor Ying. The temple, surrounding buildings and grounds span twenty thousand square metres. It is the only wooden structure and group of buildings in Beijing, dating from the Ming Dynasty, to have survived intact. 

The Zhihua Temple is fine example of Ming dynasty architecture and is famous for it's tradition of Buddhist art and as a conservatory for 'classical Music of Beijing'. In 1961 it was deemed a national preserved cultural relic.
