Museum of Chinese History and Museum of Chinese Revolution lie on the east of Tiananmen square . These two museums were built in 1959. The History Museum houses a permanent exhibition showing Chinese history from 2.5 million years ago to the year of 1919. The Museum of the Chinese Revolution covers the period from 1919 to 1949.
