London, Nov.30: Prominent British architect Lord Foster has been roped in by the Chinese government to build the world's biggest airport in Beijing well before the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Describing it as a 'truly awesome' project, Lord Foster was quoted by The Telegraph as saying that the construction of the airport would take at least three years to complete, and added that at end Beijing's new airport would be larger than the current biggest airport in Hong Kong as well as London's very busy Heathrow Airport.
'The scale is truly awesome. Hong Kong airport is currently the biggest of its kind. But that will be eclipsed by Beijing,' he was quoted as saying in an interview with Hong Kong's Sunday Morning Post.
It may be recalled, that Lord Foster also designed the Hong Kong airport and HSBC's futuristic headquarters-on-stilts.
China is already building the longest bridge in the world, from Ningbo to Shanghai, the biggest dam, at the Three Gorges, and a contender for the highest building, also in Shanghai.
