The Yinshan Pagoda forest area is located in the eastern part of the Badaling-Ming Tombs scenic spots. The Yinshan (Silver hill) gains fame, because in the winter 'layers of ice and snow are as white as silver'. Moreover, the 'stone at the foot is black in colour'.
That is why it is known as an iron wall. Hence, the scene is called an 'iron Wall and silver hill'. 

High monk Deng, Yinfeng of the Tang Dynasty preached the sutras here. There were famous monasteries before the hill built during the Liao, Jin and Ming dynasties. They were noted temple buildings on the outskirts of Beijing. In the temples were seven pagodas. Pagodas of different styles were also built at the foot of the hill. 

At present,the temples have become ruins, but the seven pagodas within the temples and part of those around the foot of the hill are still well pieserved. In 1988, they were proclaimed to be focal point cultural relics under state protection. Within the scenic area are also a preaching terrace,an ancient Buddha rock and the Chaoyang Cave preserved as ancient relics.
