The Arhat Temple was built in the 39th year of Qianlong's reign, covering 12000 square metres and imitating Anguo Temple of Haining in Zhengjiang Province. It is the temple of Han style.
The temple lays 508 arhats which were made of China fir with gold lacquer. When invading China, Japanese aggressors changed the temple into an arsenal and moved the arhats into the Hall of Puyou Temple. Until the Kuomintang's reign, they pulled down the temple. Later the Hall of Puyou Temple caught fire for being struck by lightning. Most of the arhats were destroyed.
The remain 200 arhats were moved to Puyou Temple to be visited.
