The Sichuan radio and television tower, the tallest of its kind in Western China, the fourth in the county and the seventh in the world, tried out broadcasting Monday.
With a covering radius of 80 kilometers, the 339-meter tower is a landmark structure of the province and Chengdu city and its service will be made accessible to 18 million people throughout the province.
After being put into official operation, the tower, to be open to visitors, will be able to offer comprehensive services involving urban wireless communication, weather forecast, fire fighting, traffic control, and seismic and fire surveillance.
