Originated from the Sui and the Tang Dynasties, and flourished during the Ming and the Qing Dynasties, it remains quite popular in the present day. Hence there is such an expression handed down from the ancient times: 'The Lantern in Hechuan, Fish in Dazu, while Dragon Dance in Tongliang'.
With the help of some large props and accompanied by an ensemble of Chinese wind and percussion instruments, the performance of the dragon lantern dance is usually carried out with firecrackers being set off in order to present an atmosphere of jubilation and celebration.
