Chongqing is located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, ships and boats can navigate their way upstream from coastal cities and ports on the lower reaches of the river all the year round.
There were 10 wharfs in the Chongqing City. At the joint of the Yangtze and Jialing River, the Chaotianmen Wharf is in the Northeast and it is the biggest one along the upstream of the Yangtze River. After the completion of the Three Gorges Project by 2009, even 10,000-ton vessels can navigate directly to the Chaotianmen Wharf in Chongqing.
