Consisted of three hills (Jinfo, Baizhi and Qingba), Mt Jinfo is located in the south part of Nanchuan Municipality situated in the southeast edge of the Sichuan Basin.
On account of its having a favorable geographical conditions, such as sufficient rainfall and the clear distinction of four seasons, the primitive vegetation is well preserved on this mountain. As a consequence, with the primitive vegetation being well preserved, it is ranked as the largest natural botanical garden in China.
The garden has more than 5,000 species of plants. About 250 of them are classified as ancient plants and 49 as rare plants. Besides, there are totally 1978 Yinshan(metasequoia) trees known as the living fossil.
On Mt Jinfo there are 5,000-odd varieties of subtropical plants, including such rare species as gingko, Chinese yew and the 'living fossil' metasequoia. Up to now, 49 varieties of the plants have been listed under the State protection.
Known as a natural botanical garden, Mt Jinfo is also a scenic spot and summer resort in the suburbs of Chongqing.
