In Tujia and Miao Autonomous Area in Qianjiang city, southeast of Chongqing, lives the Miao ethnic group. They are all fond of singing folk song imbued with national color and characterized by high-pitched, long-drawn-out and modulating tones. It is sometimes sung to give expression to the singers' deep love, their sincere desire and their wish for a good luck. The most popular form of singing is to sing in dialogue form, with one person questioning and the other replying. This form of singing is used sometimes to provide opportunities for young boys and girls to make friends or select their prospective spouses.
