In the Tujia and Miao Autonomous Area in Qianjiang, southeast of Chongqing, lives the Miao ethnic group.
For the people of Tujia ethnic group, a grand festival will be held every year on the days from January third to January fifteenth. The locals, young and old, woman and man, turn out in their holiday best to gather together on their village ground, singing and dancing happily for the occasion. The gala goes on until small hours. Each minority has a type of dance in its own style. Originated from the Bayu dance during the ancient times, the Baishou (Hand Waving) Dance has a remarkable fast, spirited pace, with many vibrating gestures and hand movements.
The Tujia people are good at brocade-weaving and the pattern on their clothes reflect their paying homage to Great Nature, their deep love for life and their favorites including bird, fish, insect and flower.
