Next to the West Lake Park is Fuzhou Zoo, also a place of scenic beauty characterized by traditional Chinese architecture. About 100 species of wildlife are kept in the 5-hectare garden. The caring and taming of the giant panda here ranks among the best in the nation. After patient experimenting and training the beast here is made to accept a series of ecological, biological and bio-chemical tests without compulsion or anesthetics. This made it possible to get much more accurate data in these respects than otherwise obtained. The giant pandas here can entertain spectators with such sophisticated shows as cycling, writing, ball-play and slipping down the slide.
