Guangzhou Zoo is to get a facelift next year with an injection of 6 million yuan (US$723,000).
The money will be spent on rebuilding animal enclosures and acquiring new species. Australian koalas and Indonesian orangutans are expected to be added to the zoo next year, according to a report of the New Express.
The zoo plans to put animals in a natural environment. Enclosures for giraffes, zebras and monkeys have already been renovated.
The so-called 'wild man of the forest,' orangutans, sleepy Australian koalas and two Asian elephants will be acquired next year, giving the zoo new attractions.
The three man-made lakes for more than 1,200 waterfowl will also be rejuvenated next year.
