The Crown Crag is located in the southern suburb of Guilin, a crown-like crag earns the hill its name, it stands on the bank of the Lijiang River with a Crown Cave beneath it and this cave is located in Caoping Village, 29km south of Guilin city.

What makes the hill a worthy stop for both river cruise tourists and those arrive from Guilin City by bus tour is its twelve kilometer long water-eroded cave. The underground stream originated from Mt. Haiyang empties into the majestic Lijiang River from this cave, it is a wonderland of various stalactite, stone pillars and rock formations in the cave. The cave itself is divided into four parts, each connecting with one another. Visitors can sail into the cave from Lijiang River and admire the unique appearance of the cave which is dominated by stalagmite and stalactite minerals.

The cave extends 12km, but only the 3km nearest the river has been explored to any large extent. The cave is protected by scheduled closures to ensure that its unique qualities are not lost. Stalagmites abound inside the cave making grotesque and imposing shapes that lead people into a fairyland. The deepest spot is over 10 meters (over 30 ft). It is also possible to enjoy a leisurely rafting experience after visiting this enchanting cave.

Since it is open to tourists in 1995, illuminating lights, sound control tour guide system and escalators are equipped in the scenic area and sightseeing cars and boats enable visitors to tour inside the cave. The government plan to build this site as an all-round tourist area including cave visiting, country sightseeing and ethnic minority exploration. It is estimated to become an important excursion site along the Lijiang River.
