| Located 37 kilometres northeast of Leishan,
Xijiang is the largest Miao stockade village in Southeastern Guizhou.
It consists of 12 natural villages, with 1,200 households and a population
of 6,000, of whom 99 percent are Miao. The residential houses are
all wooden, multi-storey buildings projecting over the water. The
house usually has rails for watching the moon (also known as Beauty
Rail), and dragons and phoenixes carved on the doors and windows in
traditional patterns. In this village many Miao festivals are grandly
celebrated. |
