| Lying 13 kilometres south of
Longli and 53 kilometres west of Guiyang, this valley is a scenic
area formed by plateau grasslands and forested valleys, covering an
area of 160 square kilometres. It includes tableland and valley topographies,
and many limestone caves where underground rivers flow, creating springs
and waterfalls at their outlets. The whole scenic area is covered
with a variety of dense vegetation, including bamboo groves. The tree
species total over 500, and there are many kinds of rare and precious
animals under national protection, such as serows, forest musk deer,
otters, giant salamanders, pangolins and red belly golden pheasants.
It is the monkey inhabitants that gave the valley its name. |
