At 2,200 metres, Caohai, the larges plateau
lake in Guizhou, is about 20 kilometres across and 10 kilometres long.
Located west of Weining, the lake got its name from the various kinds
of seaweed growing in it. Surrounded by green mountains, the lake
offers an enchanting plateau view
Caohai abounds in fish, waterfowls, club grass and many other aquatic
animals and plants. It provides a winter habitat for over 100 species
of birds, including the black necked crane. The Yi people also hold
