The China Silk Museum is a state-level musuem, standing before Lotus Peak at the foot of Jade Emperor Hill in Hangzhou city.
Opened to the public in 1992, it features silk production that has been going on in China for over 5 000 years.
With a floor space of 10,000 square meters(107 639 square feet), the museum consists of eight exhibition halls, including the silk cultural relies hall, the silkworm breeding and mulberry growing hall, the silk spinning hall, the silk weaving hall, the silk printing and dyeing hall, the modern achievement hall, and the folk custom hall.
Exhibits on display include unearthed silk fabrics dating form the New Stone Age till the Han, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties as well as the best products from different parts of China. Also recorded here is the time-honored history related to the three Silk Routes across the desert, by land and by sea.
Tools and machines, ancient and modern, are also displayed in the museum, recording the whole process of silk production from silkworm breeding (both mulberry worms and tussahs), reeling, spinning, weaving and printing to dyeing.
