  Guozhuang Garden and Liuzhuang Village

Guozhuang Garden is a late-Qing private garden that leans against the Western Hills and opens on to the West Lake. The hills and the lake are skillfully incorporated into a fascinating scenery that is one of a kind south of the Yangtze River.

Liuzhuang Village is a villa-garden built by Liu Xuecun, a successful candidate in the imperial examinations at the provincial level of the late Qing Dynasty. With a mountain in the back and the lake in the front, the garden is known as 'Number One Garden of the West Lake' thanks to its tranquil environment, age-old buildings, and tasteful landscaping layout.

Today it is the site of the State Guesthouse of the West Lake .
