Precious Stone Hill Floating in Rosy Clouds (Bao Shi Liu Xia)
Precious Stone (Baoshi) Hill was originally called as Shimu Hill, or Baoshu Hill. On the top of the hill, there is Baoshu Pagoda, which is about two kilometres from urban Hangzhou.
The pagoda was first constructed in 968 (during the Song Dynasty) and later fell into disrepair. Reconstruction took place in 1933 on the basis of the remaining brick core. The pagoda towers 45.3 metres but has a very narrow base so that it looks slender and elegant. It is almost impossible to see its spire from near its base.
As a landmark in the West Lake area, Baoshu Pagoda epitomizes the wisdom of the Chinese labouring people. West of this pagoda is Geling Hills. Atop it stands the Chuyang (Sunrise) Terrace which affords a distant view of Hangzhou Bay and where one can watch the rising of the sun, one of the rare sights near West Lake.
The place is one of the 'New Ten Sights of the West Lake'.
