  Longjing (Dragon Well) Village

Longjing (Dragon Well) is a small village. It perches on a hill called Fenghuang Hill, connecting the South Hill and the North Hill.

The village is deeply hidden in the luxuriant trees punctuated with mysterious springs and streams. This fresh spring water encouraged the people of Hangzhou to develop their own distinct premium quality tea and thus Longjing tea was born as the finest quality tea now sought after worldwide.

The well was discovered about 230AD. Ancient residents believed that some dragon dwelled here. People began to come here to pray for rainfall as early as Wu of Three Kingdoms (221-280) whenever there was a drought. It was said that the dragon was the god who controlled rainfall.

Now this place is frequented visited by those who come for a taste of the Longjin tea, known for its greenness, fragrance, mellow taste, and beauty of tealeaves.

Longjing village is one of the 'Ten New Sights of the West Lake'.
