The museum has a rich collection of relics of various kinds, specimens, documents of past dynasties, codes and records and ancient books of a total of 230,000 items. Cultural relics include bronzes of the Shang (1600-1046 B.C.) and the Western Zhou (11046-771 B.C.) dynasties, coins of the Chu State of the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States periods (770-221 B.C.), steles with engraved portrait, writing brushes and ink sticks and stones of the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D. 220), gold and silver wares of the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368), paintings and calligraphy works of the Xin'an School and carvings of the Huizhou School of the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1 911). Rare and highly esteemed of the cultural relics are wood-block paintings and rare books of the Huizhou School of the Ming and early Qing dynasties. The museum has a collection of 4000 pieces of painting by Pan Yuliang, a woman artist. 

On regular display are: The Ancient Civilization of Anhui, which outlines the history of political, economic, and cultural development of the province, Fossil Animal Bones, and Art Gallery of Pan Yuliang's Works.
