Ewenki nationality
The population of Ewenki nationality is about 30,000 in Inner Mongolia.
The word "Ewenki" means "people living in the mountains
and forests" in the Ewenki language.
The Round Tent
The Ewenki hunters live in the tents which are called "Xian-Ren-Zhu"
in the Ewenki language. The frame of the tent is a supporting ring,
made of birch poles or willow poles, covered with dried reed or birch
bark in summer or in autumn, and covered with the animals' skins in
winter and spring. The door of the tent usually faces to the east
or south. The tents must be arranged in a single row or in an arch.
They mustn't be arranged with one standing after another.
Deer-Luring Whistle called Uliwong
whistle made of birch bark is a device used to lure and catch
deer. The whistle is about 0.7-1 meters long and looks like an ox
horn with one end thin and the other thick. When it is blown, it sounds
as if a male deer were seeking a spouse.
"Hong" Songs
When the Ewenki people find that cows or female sheep can't recognize
their own children, they will sing such a song to persuade them to
be kind enough to let the young suck the breast. |
