The Repulse Bay is the sandy beach of having the highest representative characteristics in Hong Kong by its long and broad beach, clean water, fresh sand, calm tide and gentle wave.
Located south of Stanley, the bay is a popular choice for locals and visitors, especially in summer. It was named after a pirate ship that used to sail here in the 19th century.
With its lush green, sub-tropical backdrop and breathtaking views over sandy beaches, the area is an ideal place for a romantic dinner under the stars. Several open-air restaurants nearby specialize in the joys of wholesome barbecued food, including the freshest prawns, squid, fish and other seafood delicacies. All are cheery lives of activity every night of the week.
Repulse Bay also offers a good selection of shopping and entertainment facilities. The ornate Life Guard Club was built in a traditional Chinese style; its ceilings decorated with magnificent swirling dragons. Sea View Tower was built nearby in ancient Chinese color. Inside there are twin ten-meter-high statues of Tin Hau, (the Queen of Heaven and Protectress of Seafarers) and Avalokitesvara more than ten meters high, the Goddess of Mercy, both of whom are protectors of fishermen. Beside it, there is a Bridge of Longevity across which the image of Yuexia Laoren (the god of matchmaker) is there with a conjugal felicity stone beside him. It is said that after worshipping the god of matchmaker and striking the conjugal felicity stone, the conjugal felicity surely emerges. This is the place marriage seekers must come. At the back part of the beach, there is a building of colonial colour---Repulse Bay, whose predecessor was the Repulse Bay Hotel and now the catering and recreation center.
