The main features of Tibetan clothes can be illustrated as the following: wide waist, long sleeve and large garment front. Besides the protection against cold, it can also be used as a quilt in the evening outdoors and packaged into luggage in the daytime.
The clothes in the spring, autumn and winter are mainly made of gunny, fur and wool. Gunny and wool products are both self-produced and self-consumed. Gunny Tibetan clothes are suitable for both men and women. Woollen product is a kind of fine fabric, the color of men’s wear is white and women’s wear is black. Wool felt and wool cap are good for the protection against cold and water. The fur of sheep is mainly used for winter coat or full dress. The clothes in the summer are made of cotton or chemical fiber, usually in black and in single layer or double layers. It is quite simple for men’s summer clothes while for women’s, there is some lace in yellow, red, blue or golden at the edge, collar and cuff. It is permitted for women to take men’s wear but the other way round is forbidden.
