Tibetans are famous for their folk music and dance. There are tap
dance, lion dance, dragon lantern dance, yak dance and ritual dance
in monasteries. Tap dance is a popular entertainment among Tibetans
and they will sing and dance in circle, with hand in hand. Other
dances are all totem dances that are used to show piety to animals
by the Bön devotees. According to the custom in the Bön,
there should be only one dance in one place. For example, folks
in Shu Zhen and Zha Ru can only take dragon dance, those in Pan
Ya can only take lion dance and Jian Pan only with yak dance. In
lion dance, there are both monster ghost and devilkins accompanied;
in dragon dance, the number of dragon lanterns in each dragon is
odd. Ritual dance is the Cham dance in monasteries during Buddhist
rituals, which is therefore closely related to the Buddhism.
