Even though Jiuzhaigou lies at the climatic cross road between humid zone of Qinba Mountains in the north-west and subtropical zone of Sichuan province in the east, its climate is moderate, owing to the protection of high mountains such as Longmen Mountain in south-east and Qingling Mountain Range in north. Hence Jiuzhaigou enjoys a reasonable mild climate in dry season and a moderate cold in winter.

According to observation in Nuorilang spot in Jiuzhaigou scenic area, local annual average temperature is 7.8 centigrade, the maximum of monthly average temperature is 16.8 centigrade in July, and the minimum is –3.7 centigrade in January. Extreme highest temperature is 32.6 centigrade, and extreme lowest, -17.0 centigrade.

Annual days of non-frost in Jiuzhaigou are around 100. Overcast days are rare, and the sunlight ratio is about 40%. The snow season is from October to April of the following year.
