There are 17 species of rhododendrons in Jiuzhaigou. They are the prettiest to look at in the beginning of summer. More than 800 kinds of medicinal herbs are in abundance here, some of these include fritillary, angelica, asiabell root and Chinese caterpillar fungus. Wild apples, haw, apricots, strawberries abound here.

Algae, the simplest of plants, have contributed significantly to the beauty of Jiuzhaigou. The ever-changing colours of the lakes are due to the presence of the algae in different hues of red, green, yellow... Some are shaped like crescents, others like folding fans and yet others like chains. A total of 212 species has been recorded. More, perhaps, are waiting to be discovered.
