Lhasa is situated close to the border of Nepal and China, on the northern flanks of the Himalayas and 3,600 meters from the banks of the Lhasa River.
Lhasa enjoys delightful weather, throughout all seasons. It has 3000 hours of sunshine annually -- hence its popular name 'The Sunshine City'.
The temperatures in Lhasa vary greatly between night and day, but remain fairly uniform during the year. Winters are neither severely cold, nor summers unbearably hot. The period between December and January is not the best time for tourists due to the heavy snowfall and poor weather conditions. August is the rainy season when landslides are common. The hottest month is June; with high temperatures of 22 degrees C. Plenty of drinking water, sunglasses, a hat and sun block are musts at all times for tourists to protect from the harsh rays. The coldest time is January when temperatures can drop to minus 10 degrees C.
