The province of Jiangxi, called Gan for short, is situated in southeast
China, and lies to the south of the middle and lower reaches of
the Changjiang (Yangtze) River. Stretching 620 kilometers south
to north and 482 kilometers east to west, the province comprises
a total area of more than 166,900 square kilometers with a population
of more than 33.8 million, chiefly of Han descents supplemented
by Hui, She, Man, Zhuang, and other national minorities. Nanchang
is the capital of the province.
Jiangxi Province is located in the monsoon zone of east Asia. The
climate is mild and the rainfall ample with four distinct seasons.
The average annual temperature of the whole province varies from
16.2° -19.7°C. The hottest month is July, which has an average
temperature variance of 28° -30°C, while the coldest month
is January, which has an average temperature variance of 4°
-9°C. The annual rainfall is 1341.4-1939.4mm. The frost-free
period ranges from 241 to 304 days.
