The Luoyang Bridge is also called the Bridge
of Security. It is located across the Luoyang River about
10km to the northeast of Quan Zhou, being the 1st. big stone
bridge at a sea port. The building of the bridge began in
the 1st year of the reign of Huangyou of Song (1053) and the
construction was not completed until five years later. It
was originally 1200m in length, 5m in width, with 46 bridge
piers. On both sides of the bridge there are delicately carved
stone lions and warrior guards. In building the bridge the
"raft type foundation" and "Oyster consolidation" methods
were first introduced in the world history of bridge building,
which is a scientific contribution indeed.
