Located to the east of the Confucius Temple, the Residence of Confucius (kong fu) is the place where Confucius and his descendents used to live. With middle, eastern, and western paths, the residence now occupies an area of more than 40 acres and contains about 463 buildings, mainly halls, mansions, towers and chambers. Along the eastern path lie the Family Temple and the Ancestral Hall, while the western path leads to colleges, where the rites were learnt. |
The front part of the middle path is the official residential area, with altogether 3 halls and 6 chambers (the front hall, the second hall, the third hall, the Chamber of Management, the Chamber of One Hundred Families, the Chamber of Seals, the Chamber of Books, the Chamber of Treasures and the Chamber of Music).
The inner courtyard is just behind the official building area (containing the front chamber, the front mansion, the back mansion, and the rear rooms). The garden behind the courtyard is where the family of Confucius used to entertain while the front hall is Confucius' study. |
