Dr Sun Yatsen's Former Residence was the place where the great forerunner of China's Democratic Revolution Dr Sun Yatsen and his wife Madame Soong Ching Ling lived and worked here for the revolution from 1918 to 1924.
Located on Xiangshan Road, the western-style two-storied building was bought with funds sponsored by an Canadian overseas Chinese for Dr. Sun Yatsen. In front of the building is a landscaped garden. On the first floor is the dining room, the sitting room and on the second floor is the bed room and the study room. Dr. Sun Yatsen and his wife Madame Soong Ching Ling lived here for 6 years from 1918 to 1924. He conducted many of his important revolutionary activities here and wrote the 'Program for Fournding the Republic', 'Theories of Sun Wen' and 'Industrial Program'. On August 1922, he met here with representatives from the Central Committee of the communist Party of China Lidazhao and Lin Boqu. In the same year, he consulted with Yue Fei. On September 1922, he called a meeting on the lawn in front of the building asnd invited Communist members to attend the meeting to study and formulate the reorganisation scheme of the Nationalist Party. It was the first Nationalist and Communist coalition. Dr Sun Yatsen's former residence has been listed as a key cultural relic site under state protection.
