The Community Church is located on Hengshan Road in Xuhui District. In 1917, an oversea American Christian, living in Shanghai, organised a choir on Donghu Road. In 1925, the Community Church was built, mainly for the American Christians. On March 1930, a church was officially founded. The church was once named the American Church and later renamed the Community Church. 

The church occupies an area of 7,300 sq.m. with a floor space of 1,372 sq.m. The building is a wood and brick structure of modern Gothic architecture. The roof is a wooden frame of the shape of a pair of scissors, an architectural style of modern chuches. There are 1,400 seats in the church. 

It is the largest Christian church with high-standard choir in Shanghai. On every Christian festival and the third Sunday every month, a music gathering is held here.

Many overseas personages including Carter(the former president of USA), Bishop Tutu, the Nobel Prize winner have ever visited this church.
