Located on Sheshan Hill in Songjiang County, occupying an area of 1 hectare with a height of 20 m, Sheshan Catholic Church (also named Church of Holy Mother in China) is a Roman church architecture built in the 13th year of Qing Emperor Tongzhi (1857).
The tower-fortress type architecture looks magnificent and imposing. It is famed as the second grandest church in East Asia. On Holy Virgin's Day every May, pilgrims swarm here from all places in the country to line up in long queues in entering the church for mass. It is really a spectacular occasion.
