Shanghai Sheshan National Holiday Resort is the only state-level tourist resort in Shanghai approved by the State Council.
It is located in a district with the longest history of culture - Songjiang. The resort combines nature and humanistic sights, integrating space, ground, water and caves into one, a tourist attraction collecting, in the meantime, institutions of different religions. There are the State Forest Park, the Sheshan Observatory, built in 1899, the Tianma Pearl Protection Pagoda, known as the 'No. l leaning pagoda in the world', the Buddha Fragrance Fountain, and the Meigong Angling Rock. On the slope of the hill is built a Western World Amusement City, comprising the Labyrinth Palace of the 'Journey to the West', Wonders on the Sea Bed, Exploring Mystery in Space and the Amusement Park of 'Ordaining the Gods'. On the Eastern Sheshan Hill is the Hundred Birds' Garden, Sheshan Jinjiang Rafting World, and Xinxin Water sports Amusement Park. Nearby are also found the Tianma Pagoda Cemetery and Tianma Buddhist Incense Hill. A cable way links the tourist area up and down the hill and from east to west. It is an amusement center combining Chinese and Western features that appeal to visitors with great charm.
