Located on the summit of Mount Tai, the Temple of the Princess of the Rosy Clouds, (bixia ci) was built almost 1000 years ago to offer sacrifices to this famous mountain goddess.Taoist belief is that the Princess can bestow conception on women who make the climb up the mountain and pay their respects. Many devout Tao pilgrims can be seen today doing just this and offering sacrifices to the bronze statue located inside the temple..

The complex itself is impressive.Visitors should however, bear in mind that this is an active and working temple, and not a tourist trap. There are regulations forbidding visitors from wandering freely and these should be respected at all times

Viewed from a distance, the brilliant temple, appears to be situated in the clouds. The interior is tiled with iron and most of the decorations are made from heavy metal too, an attempt to hold them and the building down in case of severe wind.

Situated beneath the temple is a small shrine, dedicated to Confucius. Locals claim that this is where he famously commented, "the world is small" while peering down the mountainside.
