The Huangya Pass of the Great Wall is located at 28 km north of Jixian Country, about 120 km north from Tianjin and 80 kilometers from Beijing. It was originally built in 557 and rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty.
The pass contains the section of the Great Wall that extends northward to Hebei Province. During the sunset, the pass looks even more imposing with the steep slopes on both sides. Even during the Qing Dynasty over two hundred years ago, it was an important pass in northern China.
The wall and its watchtowers are on mountain ridges about 730 meters above sea level. At this commanding height, one can truly appreciate the saying: 'If one man guards the pass, ten thousand are unable to get through.' This is the mighty nature and attraction of the Great Wall at Huangya Pass.
In recent years, some new features have been added to the original construction in the renovations, although its edges still show signs of decaying age.
