  Confucian Temple

The Temple of Confucius is located on Dongmennei Street, Nankai District. It was constructed in 1436, the first year of Zhengtong, Ming Dynasty.

The temple is a place to worship the ancient Chinese thinker and educator Confucius. It is the best-preserved architectural complex of ancient China in the urban districts of Tianjin.

The buildings of the temple occupy a total area of 5000 square meters, composing of two parts sponsored, respectively, by the Fu - the Prefecture and the Xian - the County. The main structures include the Screen Wall Facing the Gate, the Lingxing Arch, the Dacheng Arch, the Dacheng Hall, the Chongsheng Memorial Hall, etc. Outside the temple tower aloft two uniquely designed archways, on one of which there is a horizontal board inscribed with the large characters 'De Pei Tian Di' - 'The morality coexists with the Universe'; on the other, 'Dao Guan Qu Jin' - 'The doctrine tops all in ancient and modern times.'
