  Guangdong Guild Hall

The Guangdong Guild Hall on Nanmennei Street, Nankai District, was built in the 33rd year (1907) under the reign of Emperor Guang Xu of the Qing Dynasty. Now it is the Tianjin Museum of Drama.

The Guangdong Guild Hall is broad in scale. Its total occupied land amounts to 2,772 square meters. The main buildings include a grand hall, side halls, a theatre building, a crossing courtyard, etc. Among them, the theatre building was constructed with wonderful workmanship, its internal space is vast, field of vision wide, while roof beams and pillars are finely carved and novelly decorated. It's the only Chinese traditional classic theatre existing in Tianjin. The unique building of the Chinese traditional rectangular courtyard is a rare art treasure of wooden architecture.

In 1922, Dr Sun Yat-sen stayed for a short while and delivered an important speech in the guildhall. Nowadays, a lot of valuable exhibits reflecting Tianjin history of drama, such as stage photos, costumes, properties and theatrical programs are on display in the Museum of Drama.
