| Zhangye Dafo Si(Big Buddle Temple; daily 7.30am - 6:30pm), Built in 1098 and restored during Qing times, this 34-metre-long Buddha is easily China's largest reclining Buddha and its calm expression and gentle lines make a powerful impression. Immediately behind the Buddha are ten disciples, and standing around in the gloom are a number of slightly grotesque-looking lohans(saintly warriors). The temple is located in a pleasant leafy garden, which also houses a fairly humdrum museum. |
