In the eleventh century B.C., the people grew from the Zhou plateau expanded toward east to defeat the Shang Dynasty. Then they made their two capitals of Feng and Hao in the Fenghe River (fifteen kilometres west of the present Xian).
With fertile land and dense population, here was the political, economic, cultural centre of the Zhou Dynasty. From the sites of Feng and Hao, many exquisite bronze wares were unearthed.
