Flowery bun is a kind of food as well as a folk art, very popular in the countryside of Shaanxi. When there are weddings or funerals and holiday celebrations, local women use scissors, combs and spoons to cut and press flower, bird or animal patterns on the dough which are then steamed. They are used for worshipping sacrifices or gifts for relatives or friends, symbolizing luck, good wishes or warding off calamities.
