Located in the western part of Yangzhou, the artificial lake built in the Qing Dynasty is the slender version of the West Lake in Hangzhou. It is a key scenic spot under State protection.
During Emperor Qianlong's reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the lake was well known for 24 scenic spots. The most famous feature is the 3-arched Five Pavilion Bridge, built in 1757. The Lake has a length of 4 km and its shore is adorned with pavilions, bridges and other structures, including Emperor Qianlong's fishing platform.
