| The Western Xia Mausoleums is located at the eastern
slope of the Helan Mountain, 30 km. at the western suburbs of Yinchuan
City. It covers about 40 sq. km.The Kingdom of Wester Xia was set
up in the years between 1038 and 1227 and reigned over by twelve emperors
in succession for 190 years. But by the history record there are only
nine Western Xia Mausoleums and about 140 immolating tombs. Now, through
a long time erosion, only the ruins of these buildings are left. However,
their imposing appearance can still be glimpsed in such things as
the rammed loess catafalques, towers, vividly glazed tiles and walls.
This is a rarely treasure house of art in the culture history of the
Western Xia. The Western Xia Mausoleums are praised as "the Pyramid
in China" by the foreign tourists.
